Travel Agents – Why you should use one to book your next trip.

As a travel agent, there are many ways you can help travelers plan and book their trips. Here are just a few examples of the services you can provide:

  • Tailored itinerary planning: You can work with travelers to create custom itineraries that meet their specific needs and interests. This can include everything from selecting the perfect hotel and flights, to arranging tours and activities at destinations.
  • Access to exclusive deals and discounts: As a travel agent, you have access to a wide range of deals and discounts that may not be available to the general public. This can include everything from discounted airfare and hotel rates, to special offers on cruises and vacation packages.
  • Expertise and knowledge: With your experience and training in the travel industry, you can provide valuable advice and insight to travelers. This can include tips on the best time to visit a destination, recommendations for must-see sights and activities, and advice on how to navigate unfamiliar cultures and customs.
  • Personalized service: As a travel agent, you can offer a level of personalized service that online booking sites and self-booking options cannot match. You can get to know your clients, understand their needs and preferences, and provide them with a tailored travel experience.
  • Time-saving: You help to save time and hassle for travelers. You handle all the details of travel planning and booking, so travelers can focus on enjoying their trip.

To sweeten the deal even more – a travel agent’s services are complimentary!  Yes.  That’s right.
So wait…. how does a travel agent get paid?  Well I am glad you asked.

Travel agents typically get paid through a combination of commissions and service fees, with commission being the primary source of income. Commission rates vary depending on the supplier and the type of product being booked.  Now, some travel agents may charge a small fee to up front, but not always, so it’s important to ask these questions when choosing a travel agent.  For a bit more explanation…

  • Commission: Many travel suppliers, such as airlines, hotels, and tour companies, pay travel agents a commission for booking their products. The commission rate can vary depending on the supplier and the type of product being booked. For example, an agent may earn a higher commission on a luxury hotel booking than on a budget hotel booking.
  • Service Fees: Some travel agents may also charge service fees to their clients for the time and expertise they put into planning and booking a trip. These fees can be a flat rate or a percentage of the overall cost of the trip.

Now before you go about your day, I have one more thing to discuss.  Let’s say that at this point, you have decided that you’d like to use a travel agent to save time and brain energy. What’s next?  Well, I am going to tell you how to get the most out of your experience by being prepared.

When booking a trip with a travel agent, it is important to provide them with the following information:

  • Travel dates: Provide your travel agent with your preferred travel dates, including the dates you would like to depart and return.
  • Destination: Tell your travel agent where you want to go. This includes the specific city, country or region, and the purpose of your trip (e.g. leisure, business, family vacation).
  • Number of travelers: Provide your travel agent with the number of people traveling and their ages. This information is important for booking flights, hotels, and rental cars.
  • Budget: Give your travel agent an idea of your budget. This will help them find options that fit within your price range.
  • Travel preferences: Let your travel agent know about your travel preferences, such as your preferred type of accommodation, transportation, and activities.
  • Special requirements: If you have any special requirements, such as dietary restrictions or mobility needs, be sure to let your travel agent know.
  • Contact information: Provide your travel agent with your contact information, including your phone number and email address.
  • Emergency contact: Give your travel agent with the contact information of someone who can be reached in case of an emergency.

Providing your travel agent with this information will help them plan the perfect trip that meets your needs and preferences. It will also help the travel agent to be able to provide you with accurate quotes and better options.

I hope this helps, and of course, I’d love to help your next trip go as smoothly as possible – so if you are looking into your next trip or group outing, feel free to reach out!
